Features: A TRIBUTE TO BASIL POLEDOURIS "Live In Concert at Úbeda Film Festival"

The Film Music Festival of Úbeda and the BSOSpirit Association, in collaboration with SINGULAR SOUNDTRACK present one of the biggest events in the world of film music: the only live concert of Basil Poledouris, focused on a Masterpiece on film music: "Conan the Barbarian".

Will be available exclusively during the Festival this year.

This DVD includes the entire concert of Basil Poledouris, with almost 50 minutes of "CONAN THE SYMPHONY", mixed and mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 for the occasion. In addition, the DVD includes two exclusive documentaries:

"REMEMBERING BASIL". Over 40 minutes of exclusive interviews with family members (his wife Bobbie and hisdaughters Zoe and Alexis) and close friends of Basil as Paul Verhoeven, Randal Kleiser, Richard Kraft, Eric Colvin, etc. Made after his death.

"THE TALE OF CONAN", where Basil himself explains how he composed this masterpiece, in addition to the pre-concert rehersals and the prize-giving of the GoldSpirit at the Festival. It also includes an emotional photo editing ("BASIL AT ÚBEDA") and an exhaustive interview conducted by professionals from BSOSpirit and his complete filmography. Almost two hours of tribute to one of the most famous composers in the history of cinema. Done in English with subtitles in Spanish.

New guests and attendants

We announce you the incorporation to the Festival's program of more composers (full information in guests section):

First, the Japan-born and resident in USA Wataru Hokoyama (photo) one of the most prestigious names in the field of the music for videogames. Also, will attend Alfons Conde, outstanding catalonian composer that has just released the film No-DO, Zeltia Montes, winner last year of the Jerry Goldsmith award, and Alejandro Vivas, finalist in this year's edition of this awards, and one of the revelation composers of the year, thanks to his score for The El Escorial Conspirancy.

Futhermore, in the guest section, we have included a list of more composers who also will attend to this Festival edition.

Bruno Coulais will not be able to come to Ubeda

Our beloved friend Bruno Coulais has informed us that, due to an unexpected change in his work schedule, it will be impossible for him to be with us this year at the Ubeda's Festival.

The reason is that the days of the recording sessions of his new score, Lucky Lucke, have been changed, and unfortunately they are the same days as the Festival's.

We hope you'll understand the circumstaces and we reiterate that, for the admiration and affection for him, Bruno Coulais will always have the doors open at the Ubeda's Festival. We hope to have his presence next year.

In few hours we will announce a new list of guest and assistant composers to the Festival.

"Roar!" at the Symphonic concert!!

The American composer, Michael Giacchino, has already closed hus program for the concert on Saturday July 18.

This will be simply spectacular. His possible suites for videogames fall down (on other time it will be), but in return he gives us one of his best compositions, one that we hadn't announced and that we assume will delight many: "Roar!", the Credits Titles from Cloverfield (2008). To this are in addition the suite from "Star Trek" (2009), more specifically its "End Credits", a suite encompassing "Ratatouille" and "Up" and finally another suite from "Lost" (Lost).

But that does not stop the party. Yesterday we received the material for "Coraline" by Bruno Coulais, what almost ensures his participation in the concert. The chosen pieces are "Dreaming", "End Credits", "The Party" and "The Supper".

Finally, Joel McNeely has send us the material for his suite "Bell (Tinkerbell, 2008) and "Bell 2" (Tinkerbell 2, 2009). He also send us an audio sample to let us get an idea of what we'll hear in the concert, and be sure that it will be one of the best moments. A classical music, very reminiscent of the Eighties, with a beautiful and bright choral and brilliant Celtic tones.

Gradually the precise Concert program is being drawn, surely one of the best we have enjoyed in the beautiful city of Ubeda.

Bruno Coulais

This great French composer was among us the second year of the Festival. Such was his experience in Úbeda that he has want to return and this time with his music in concert. We are working today to get his latest and excellent score, "Coraline" in the symphonic concert of the 18Th July.

As you know well, Bruno is the composer of the multi-award winner and successful “The Chorus”, for which he earned an Oscar nomination, being also the author of magnificent scores like “Microcosmos”, “The Crimsom Rivers”, “Himalaya”, “Genesis” or “Winged Migration”. Actually he is writing the music for the film version of the adventures of the hero Lucky Luke.

Coulais, closes the amazing group of guestrs that will delight all the attendants to this V Film Music Festival “Ciudad de Úbeda”.

But!. The surprises are not over. We have still a lot of information to announce.

We have the IV JERRY GOLDSMITH AWARDS nominees!

We have just posted in the section of the Jerry Goldsmith Awards the list of those who have been chosen for each of the six categories.

This list is made up of a total of 25 talented composers, promises of future and realities of the present, that are Spaniards, Germans, Australians, Chileans and Americans. The films nominated in the different categories are from Spain, Germany, Chile, United States, Australia and Austria.

The section of the awards is going to grow in the forthcoming days -and thanks to the collaboration of the composers- of information, music samples, fragments of movies and anything else that you may need to know in order to be aware on the big day of the awards ceremony. But now you can get an idea of what is going to be it that part of the web. As soon as we have new information we will incorporate it.

We ask you to, like us, give your affection and support to these enthusiastic musicians, because they deserve it all. They have come to good hands, because one of the things that has already been demonstrated in these awards is that it is a pure reality, almost a slogan, that in the Jerry Goldsmith, if you lose you also win.
