Well, the latest of our conversations with one of our head guests have been more than satisfactory.

And that even he is super-busy, as he has just finished recording the music of "Up" and now is working with "Land of the Lost."

Well, today he is considering to participate in the recital. He confirms, of course, his participation in the cd signing and what is best will also participate in the workshop of composition. An encouragement to all those musicians, composers and interested in receiving training on more technical music composition for films.

Finally, we did not want to miss the opportunity to remind you that you have already in theaters in our country one of the most important films of the year "Star Trek", with music by the composer.

We have already a preliminar program!

Yes. Here you have one of the big issues of our Festival. Our identity signal. The reason that the Festival has become more a coexistence rather than a mere spectacle programme. The seed of the "Ubeda Spirit".

You can get into the "programme" section of the main menu and get an idea of what you are going to find if you're registered to the whole Festival (Modality A).

As you see it is a preliminar program, there are still activities to be determined, guests to be announced and many moments to share and enjoy.
To those of you who come or will come for the first time to the Festival, a slogan: "You do not come to Ubeda to sleep”.

New Guest: Aritz Villodas

We owned this to him. He is the author of our anthem. The second year he was going to participate in the symphony concert, but at last time it was not possible.

What better way to comply with our debt with him than do this in the V year, in our anniversary. Aritz will participate in the Recital and in the Symphonic Concerts. In this one with a suite from one of the best soundtracks of 2008: "No me pidas que te bese por que te besaré" .

THE IV JERRY GOLDSMITH AWARDS CONTEST IS NOW OPEN

Are you a composer and you do not know how to have your work exposed and recognized? Well, this is your opportunity.

The Festival has opened its doors to the IV edition of the already internationally-famous Jerry Goldsmith Awards. Please, click on the Awards section of our website to find all the information.

This contest intends to acknowledge the work of those artists that are at the start of their careers in the audiovisual world (film, shows, video games or any other related media). Since we know how difficult it is for new composers to find a suitable space to have their production exhibited, this contest offers them a wide range of tools to help them in their promotion, both within and outside our borders; the award just being one of many vehicles they will have at their disposal.

The winners in each category will thus see their efforts rewarded in manifold ways. In addition, all their creations will benefit from a significant exposure on the grounds of the extensive media coverage that the ceremony and in general the event do offer.

The Jerry Goldsmith Award takes this name after the great North-American composer, deceased in 2004, and author of such representative scores as Patton, Alien, Chinatown, Poltergeist or The Omen, for which he earned an Oscar. The first year these prizes were presented, we were honored with his widow’s, Carol Heather Goldsmith, attending the ceremony.

A Distinct Voice

Best know for his collaborations with prominent filmmaker and Ghibli's animation studio co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, Joe Hisaishi is one of the most influential figures in the Japanese film industry and the creative genius behind over a hundred film scores.

His prolific career encompasses not only some of the very hallmarks of Anime since the early 1980s -such as Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1983), Princess Mononoke (199X) or the Academy Award-winning film Spirited Away (2001)- but also a number of succesful film and TV productions like Honō no Alpen Rose (1985) and most of Takeshi Kitano's-directed features including Sonatine (1993), Kikujiro (1999) and Brother (2000).

A versatile artist, Joe Hisaishi has further successfully developed a solo career as performer, music producer and record label owner in addition to working as an arranger, head of orchestra and occassional film director.

His talent has been widely recognized as the recepient of countless international honors including five Japanese Film Academy Awards, the Annie Awards, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award and the Hong Kong Film Awards, among many other.

After writing last year's critically acclaimed score for Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, 2009 sees Joe Hisaishi returning to solo form with a new album -Another Piano Stories - The End of the World- as well as writing music to the French production Sunny et L'éléphant plus two more films in Japan: I'd Rather Be a Shellfish and the Academy Award-winning Picture in Foreign Language Departures.

A first-timer in Spain, Joe Hisaishi's presence in the Úbeda Film Music Festival is a luxury that few film music fans can miss!
