Joel McNeely is already here

Guest composers invited to the long-awaited Vth Edition of the International Film Music Festival 'Ciudad de Úbeda' are already arriving in Spain and, during the next few hours, we will be welcoming them. Before accompanying them to Úbeda, they will seize this opportunity to do a bit of sightseeing and visit some places of interest.

One of these composers is Joel McNeely. He has just arrived in Madrid, so we have headed for the capital to welcome him and be with him before going to Úbeda. The composer of Star Wars: Shadows of Empire, Mulan II or Thinker Bell knew too well what he wanted to see first upon arrival in Madrid. Joel is a self-confessed football fan, so it just seemed like an obvious decision to do a little tour inside the Real Madrid Football Team Stadium, Santiago Bernabéu. He asked for that and we were more than happy to oblige, thus showing him the achievements and patrimony of the Club.

On our way to the Stadium, our guest told us that his son plays as goalkeeper for the Los Angeles Galaxy, the same team to which David Beckham did recently belong. It seems that his son is doing quite well, so he is part of the American football selection in the category of under-17s.

Joel beheld with enthusiasm all the facilities and also asked about Spanish player Casillas and the relationship between Real Madrid and David Beckham.

In the next few hours we will head for Úbeda with Joel by car. It’s getting closer, and new arrivals of new guests are speeding up...

In the Shop of the Festival, as every year, you'll find dozens of soundtracks and other productos that you'll can get on special prizes.

Roque Baños en concierto is a double CD and DVD that includes a concert the composer performed in Córdoba, with the city's orchestra and the chorus Ziryab, and in which he makes an exhaustive overview to his film career.

In the Shop of the Festival, also, you'll find scores of the guest composers as well as other soundtracks of great interest.

Do not forget to visit it!.

This year we will put a shirt on sale. It is the shirt of the "Spirit of Úbeda", in clear homage to two of the most important composers of our Festival, Jerry Goldsmith and Basil Poledouris.

The other shirt will be the official of the Festival. It will not be available. It will be the official shirt of the organization (such as a soccer equipment). However, it will givenexclusively to those who have attended the 5 years of the Festival. One detail that the organization wants to have with them.

Both have been designed by our master of visual arts, Andrés Antúnez, also author of the Official Poster of the Year.

Chers Amis,

C’est avec une grande tristesse que je dois renoncer à ma participation au Festival d’Ubeda car les dates d’enregistrement de la musique du film “Lucky Luke” que j’ai composée ont été repoussées à la même période que celle du Festival.

Je le regrette infiniment car je garde un merveilleux souvenir de mon séjour à Ubeda en 2006, de l’accueil si chaleureux de David Doncel, de Marc Vaillo, Oscar Gimenez et de leurs collaborateurs, des rencontres passionnantes avec mes amis les compositeurs espagnols, de la conférence avec mon grand ami Conrado Xalabarder qui connaît mieux mes musiques quemoi-même.

Il règne en effet à Ubeda tout ce dont on peut rêver d’un festival sur la musique de film : la ferveur du public, les concerts à la belle étoile et les rencontres avec les compositeurs qui viennent du monde entier. Mille excuses encore et quoiqu’il arrive je serai là l’année prochaine!

Dear friends

It is for me quite sad to have to renounce to my participation at the Ubeda's Festival, since the dates of recording of the music for the film "Lucky Luke" I've composed, match the same period the Festival takes place.

I do sorry infinitely, because I keep a wonderful remembrancer of my stay at Ubeda in 2006, of the very warm welcome from David Doncel, Marc Vaillo, Oscar Gimenez and their staff, exciting meetings with my Spanish composers friends, of the conference with my great friend Conrado Xalabarder, who knows my compositions better that myself.

It surely reigns in Úbeda all what you can dream in a film music festival: the zeal of the public, the open-air concerts and the meetings with composers who come from all over the world.

Thousand excuses, but do no doubt I will be there next year!

The VIII Goldspirits Awards, which will be given on Saturday, July 18th, are going to became again a real party of emotion and fun, with spectacular videos and more surprises.

Meanwhile, you can see an introduction video that we have prepared and that is inserted in the section of this awards in the Festival's website. It is just an advance of what you are going to have...

All ready also for the IV Jerry Goldsmith awards, which ceremony will take place on thursday, 16th. This is, of course, a ceremony where we will honor to all the magnificent new composers finalists. All of them have cautivated us with the excellencies of their works, that you can know in the proper section of the website.

Meanwhile, we show you the cover of the double CD that, in September, we will release, with the inclusion of all the musics winners and nominees. This will be a promo CD, for the composers and that will be send to the main agents of composers. We will also draw some of them among the film music fans.

A TRIBUTE TO BASIL POLEDOURIS

Undoubtedly, one of the releases of the year.

Many of you did ask for. Some of you had it already, but now comes with many extras and with improved audio.

The Film Music Festival of Úbeda and the BSOSpirit Association, in collaboration with SINGULAR SOUNDTRACK present one of the biggest events in the world of film music: the only live concert of Basil Poledouris, focused on a Masterpiece on film music: "Conan the Barbarian".

Will be available exclusively during the Festival this year.

This DVD includes the entire concert of Basil Poledouris, with almost 50 minutes of "CONAN THE SYMPHONY", mixed and mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 for the occasion. In addition, the DVD includes two exclusive documentaries:

"REMEMBERING BASIL". Over 40 minutes of exclusive interviews with family members (his wife Bobbie and hisdaughters Zoe and Alexis) and close friends of Basil as Paul Verhoeven, Randal Kleiser, Richard Kraft, Eric Colvin, etc. Made after his death.

"THE TALE OF CONAN", where Basil himself explains how he composed this masterpiece, in addition to the pre-concert rehersals and the prize-giving of the GoldSpirit at the Festival. It also includes an emotional photo editing ("BASIL AT ÚBEDA") and an exhaustive interview conducted by professionals from BSOSpirit and his complete filmography. Almost two hours of tribute to one of the most famous composers in the history of cinema. Done in English with subtitles in Spanish.

New guests and attendants

We announce you the incorporation to the Festival's program of more composers (full information in guests section):

First, the Japan-born and resident in USA Wataru Hokoyama (photo) one of the most prestigious names in the field of the music for videogames. Also, will attend Alfons Conde, outstanding catalonian composer that has just released the film No-DO, Zeltia Montes, winner last year of the Jerry Goldsmith award, and Alejandro Vivas, finalist in this year's edition of this awards, and one of the revelation composers of the year, thanks to his score for The El Escorial Conspirancy.

Futhermore, in the guest section, we have included a list of more composers who also will attend to this Festival edition.
